Over the half term holiday The Barnsbury Primary School in Woking needed to paint their main reception and hallway areas. The school applied to CMPP to help source some corporate volunteers to help their caretaker manage the job. CMPP ended up sourcing two volunteering teams, one of which was a fantastic team of five employees from Alphabet.
Adam Harris, Planning and Insight Executive at Alphabet describes their day: "A team of 5 employees from Alphabet, made up of staff from several teams, attended The Barnsbury Primary School during the February half term break to help out with decorating in the reception area and main corridor.
We all arrived on a sunny, but very cold morning to be welcomed onto site by the school caretaker, we were very quickly briefed on what areas needed decorating and then armed with the brushes, the rollers and most importantly the paint.
We started with the main reception area and after a good coat of magnolia paint, and a cup of tea, we were directed towards the longer main corridor, where we kept up the good pace and managed to complete all of the walls before our 3pm departure time.
After several volunteering events, it still surprises me how much work we can achieve when we’re all traveling in the same direction"
Adam continues "Emma Thompson (CMPP's Community Action Day Coordinator) has made the whole experience of finding and taking part in a volunteering event effortless from our perspective, however I’m sure that a huge amount of work is done behind the scenes! I’ll definitely be in contact to arrange future events for our department."
Louise Hammond, Deputy Headteacher at The Barnsbury School said: "The walls along the main corridor were looking very tired and were in dire need of decorating however with school budgets shrinking rapidly this task hadn’t been prioritised. The school now looks much smarter and inviting to the children, staff, parents and visitors. This has also not impacted the school budget which has resulted in the children also being able to still access vital resources like new reading books. The volunteers from BMW were very enthusiastic and worked very hard when decorating Barnsbury. Thank you!"
Emma Thompson, CMPP Community Action Day Coordinator said: "This volunteering day is another amazing example of what can be achieved by willing corporate volunteers and highlights the incredible benefits given to the school. Well done to all the hard working volunteers, you have made a fantastic difference"
