corporate volunteers create beautiful memorial garden at Fernhill School

On 24 May 2017, 8 employee volunteers from Capquest, TAG Farnborough Airport and The Sixth Form College Farnborough went to Fernhill School to help create a memorial garden for the late Stacey Burrows.

Stacey attended Fernhill School for the duration of her Secondary School Life. Having been affected by the tragic incident back in November, the school put in an application with CMPP for a Give & Get Day. The application was successful and CMPP were delighted to help a brilliant local school with such a heartfelt project.

The group of employee volunteers from Rushmoor helped paint benches, plant shrubs, bushes and plants, dig and lay soil, and mount signs and bird boxes to bring the area to life.

The transformation of the garden was huge. What was a dull patch of grass is now a vibrant, colourful and hopeful place for students to go and remember loved ones and reflect on the good, whilst creating new and uplifting memories.

Hannah McMahon, PE Teacher at Fernhill School, said: “We have been overwhelmed by all the support we received in helping us create a memorial garden in honour of Stacey's memory. The space will be used for students, staff and family to spend time reflecting and celebrating the life of a wonderful girl. This is a long term project and we hope to keep adding to the space to ensure the garden flowers throughout the whole year.”

Ann-Marie Hammond, HR Officer at Capquest, said: “It was a fantastic (and beautifully sunny) morning at Fernhill School. We spent our time planting on all of the new plants and clearing up the borders. There was a real sense of camaraderie and it felt great to help do something so lovely for Stacey’s family and friends.”

Jenna Grant, Community Engagement Coordinator at The Sixth Form College Farnborough, said: “It was a very rewarding experience to help provide a safe haven for those affected by the loss of a friend. What was originally a patch of grass is now a beautiful and vibrant garden where school children can go and sit and remember loved ones. Thank you to everyone who helped make this garden magical!”

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to bring to life a beautiful garden!
